child protection training pilot indonesia
Setting the Standard for Safeguarding Training in Indonesian Schools.
our mission
The TeachUp Child Protection and Safeguarding Pilot Project, developed in collaboration with Digital Education Partnerships Indonesia (DEPI), represents a pivotal step toward establishing a standardised, quality-controlled approach to child protection training in Indonesia’s schools. By addressing critical issues such as violence, abuse, and bullying, this pilot supports national education goals and ensures compliance with Indonesia’s child protection regulations, safeguarding the rights and well-being of children in educational institutions.
Standardising Training for Diverse Needs
The pilot programme consists of two bilingual, CPD-certified courses, each tailored to the specific needs of different school staff roles, ensuring targeted professional development for teachers, administrators, and support staff.
level 1: Introduction to Safeguarding and Child Protection
Level 1 introductory course developed for staff working in Indonesia including support workers, transport staff, security guards and volunteers.
level 2: Advanced Safeguarding and Child Protection
Level 2 advanced course developed for teaching assistants, teachers, safeguarding leads, principals, HR and governors working in Indonesia.
the Need for Standardised Child Protection Training
The 2020 UNICEF Report on the State of Children in Indonesia highlights ongoing threats to child safety, including violence, abuse, and bullying, especially in rural areas. While initiatives like the Child-Friendly Schools Initiative have made progress, they lack a consistent, high-quality approach to child protection.
A 2020 report by Buana Perjuangan University found that over 30% of sexual violence cases in schools involved teachers, underscoring the need for uniform, high-standard training for all school staff. The recent MoECRT mandate to establish Violence Prevention and Handling Teams (TPPK) further emphasises the importance of systematic training to implement effective child protection protocols.
establishing a Quality-Control Framework

Equip school staff with the necessary skills to prevent, identify, and respond to incidents of violence, bullying, and abuse.
-
Align school practices with Ministerial Regulation No. 46 of 2023, reinforcing adherence to national child protection mandates.
-
Foster a culture of awareness and proactive engagement among school staff, parents, and communities.
-
Use feedback from pilot participants to refine training content and develop a scalable model for broader implementation.
