Joanne Robinson

Director of Training and Development

As TeachUp’s Director of Training and Development, Joanne Robinson (BA, MA, PGCE, FCCT) brings extensive experience in teacher training and professional development. Joanne has worked in postgraduate teacher education since 2018. Before joining TeachUp, she was the Director of International Programmes for Tes, leading their iPGCE across the globe and authoring and delivering a very successful MA in Education with Pedagogy. The key aim of her courses was empowering educators to use research-based practice to inspire transformative teaching and learning. She has been privileged to work with thousands of teachers from schools all over the world.

Joanne graduated from the University of Hull with her BA Hons degree and MA before undertaking her PGCE in English and Drama at the University of York in 2002. She taught in secondary education for 16 years, holding a number of responsibilities. She has been an ITT and NQT co-ordinator, a Lead Practitioner, Progress Leader for whole school GCSE and A Level performance, and she ran a Sixth Form. She is also a qualified swimming teacher. Joanne has enjoyed the diversity of her roles, which have given her significant experience in leadership, pastoral care and special educational needs, alongside teaching and learning. She has acted as a coach, mentor and performance manager many times and sees teacher development as fundamental to the future of education. She has always been interested in how teachers are supported to foster their professional expertise, and she believes that excellent training is essential for keeping teachers thriving in their careers.

Joanne is leading on several training initiatives for TeachUp, including new workshops on dynamic teaching and learning, behaviour for learning and inclusive practice. She intends to make recent discoveries in neuroscience, behavioural sciences and psychology accessible for teachers so they can create powerful, inclusive learning experiences for their students.
